LUCKNOW: As many as 10 cops of the UP police got prestigious medals for excellence in investigation. The medal was instituted in 2018 by the ministry of home affairs.
Those awarded included two officers of the rank of deputy superintendent of police, six inspectors, two sub-inspectors.
DSP, Sansar Singh Rathi, in Gonda, was awarded medal in a case in which he had filed a chargesheet in gangrape and murder case in just 13 days. The murder and gangrape of a minor had taken place in Gonda on Feb 5, 2022.
DSP, ATS, Saviratna Gautam, got the medal for investigation in which two members of Popular Front of India (PFI) Anshad Badruddin and Firoz Khan were arrested for allegedly planning to bomb temple towns in UP during February 2021. Three months later a chargesheet was filed and charges of Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA) were also slapped on the duo.
Others included Inspectors Kamlesh Singh, Santosh Sharma, Yogendra Kumar, Shailesh Kumar Rai, Bhaiya Shivprasad Singh, Ramgovind Mishra, and sub-inspectors Neeraj Kumar and Suraj Kumar Tiwari. They were given medals for investigation in separate cases in different districts of the state.
