Halifax’s The Piece Hall is marking the fifth anniversary this Yorkshire Day, with the news it has now welcomed more than 10 million visitors since re-opening.
The milestone figure comes despite losing more than a year of footfall due to lockdown restrictions following the multi-million pound refurbishment. What was first opened in 1779 for the trading of ‘pieces’ of cloth produced by local mills is now an award-winning leisure, retail, cultural and heritage destination. Grade I listed, it is the only remaining Georgian cloth hall in the world.
Numbers have clocked 10,500,300 since the return on August 1, 2017, with all taking in the 66,000 sq ft open air courtyard, described as ranking alongside the great piazzas of Europe.
