Inflation has hit record levels as the key measure of prices increases reaches a 40 year high.
The consumer prices index (CPI) measure of inflation was 9.4% for June, up from 9.1% in May, the ONS said - the ninth month in a row it has gone up. This means that people's money isn't going as far as it should be so household bills, food and fuel is costing more and more.
For example, if something cost £1 a year ago and the rate of inflation is 9.4%, it would cost £1.094 today. To come up with the 9.4% figure, the Office for National Statistics (ONS) has to work out how much hundreds of common items are rising or falling in price by, reported The Mirror.
