There has been no shortage of supposed Loch Ness Monster sightings in 2022 for those interested in capturing evidence of the mythical beast's existence.
With so many alleged sightings of Nessie over the years, it is no surprise that this year provided us with plenty of photos and videos to pore over. While not every sighting made it onto the Official Loch Ness Monster Sightings Register, they are all worth looking into.
We have covered plenty of these sightings over the past 12 months, and to celebrate the start of the new year, we have compiled a list of the 10 we believe to be the most interesting.

First official Loch Ness Monster sighting of 2022 recorded after three month drought
Back in March, a Loch Ness Monster hunter reported the first official sighting of the year after spotting what he said were two objects moving parallel to each other on the surface of Loch Ness.
Irishman Eoin O'Faodhagain is a veteran Nessie hunter and regularly records sightings via the Loch Ness webcam.
His March sighting ended more than three months of no official sightings after it was marked up on the Official Loch Ness Monster Sightings Register.

Tourist captures 'Loch Ness Monster' on sonar 400ft below surface
The second official Nessie sighting of the year was reported when a tourist stated he captured what he believed to be the Loch Ness Monster on sonar lurking over 400 feet under the surface.
Tom Ingram was left speechless when he saw something "big" appear on a tourist boat's sonar. At first, he thought it was the crew playing a prank before realising it was in fact real.

Highland resident of 30 years left stunned by sighting
In April, a local resident who works near Loch Ness spoke of his shock after spotting what he believed to be the famous monster. Glen Blevins had lived in the area for more than 30 years before the sighting and said he had never seen anything like it.
He saw a large object in the loch when looking through his binoculars, commenting: "I was near Aldourie Castle on Friday 15th April, working on the banks of the loch when I saw a large animate [sic] object in the water between both banks of the loch at approx 9.30 am."

'Best footage captured for 20 years' in April
April was an exciting time for Nessie hunters, as it also marked the 'best footage captured for 20 years' of the monster, after a couple holidaying in a nearby cottage shared a video they took.
Taken on the morning of April 25 at around 6am, the sighting was accepted as the fourth official one in 2022 according to the Official Loch Ness Monster Sightings Register.

Veteran webcam spotter Eoin O Faodhagain sees 'two large' humps coming out of water
Eoin O Faodhagain made headlines again in May when he captured a clip on his webcam of something large coming in and out of the water about 500 metres from the shoreline at Urquhart Castle.
Taken on Tuesday, May 24 at 12.30pm, Eoin commented: "It was excellent surface conditions when the sighting took place. The sighting only lasted for over a minute, but the footage clearly shows an object rising high out of the water, showing at first one large hump, then two humps, and then, disappears completely, showing only the flat surface of the water afterwards."

Local resident sees wake moving against prevailing currents
After a quiet few months, Nessie reappeared towards the end of the summer after a local resident spotted something moving against the current for more than seven minutes.
According to The Official Loch Ness Monster Sightings Register, this is the first official sighting since the last one was recorded in April. The incident, which took place on August 27, occurred at the northern tip of the loch.
Keeper Gary Campbell, who has recorded over a thousand sightings, said: "A local resident was on the hill above Lochend when they saw a wake moving against prevailing currents from Lochend in the direction of Drumnadrochit."

Clip of 'giant eel-like shapes' captured on webcams
In September, Eoin O'Fagan captured two videos of 'giant eel-like shapes' moving on the surface of Loch Ness. The footage was taken on newly installed webcams.
The cameras were installed around the shores of the loch to help people try to get proof of the existence of the monster. The Co Donegal resident said: "I captured two very interesting video clips on two of the new webcams recently."

Bird-watcher spots Nessie 'on holiday' at Loch Long
Jamie Houghton was bird-watching at Loch Long when he spotted something odd in the water. The insurance broker from Derbyshire saw a strange creature that led people to ask if Nessie had decided to take a wee holiday.
He explained he was visiting the loch in Argyll near the holiday lodges at Ardgartan in June when he snapped the intriguing images. Jamie commented: "It was difficult to say what size it was as it was some distance away."

Scots mum and daughter take photo of mysterious black lump
In October, Scots mum and daughter shared a photo of a mysterious black lump they say appeared before them as they walked on the banks of Loch Ness. The sighting was recorded as the sixth official one in 2022.
The incident, which took place on October 11, was recorded in the evening at around 5:24 pm. The post on the Official Loch Ness Monster Sightings Register stated that the pair noticed a long break in the water which was otherwise "still and calm" just 200 yards off the bank.

Irishman Eoin O'Faodhagain captures '20 to 30 foot long black shape'
Eoin O'Faodhagain once again spotted something suspicious in October after he managed to take a photo of a long black elongated shape on the surface of the loch. Though the images were barred from the Official Register, Eoin was still keen to share the latest snap.
The Donegal resident said: "I captured a single photo on Thursday on the VILN Shoreland Lodges Webcam at Loch Ness at 12.40pm. I estimate the length of the creature to be 20 to 30 feet long, taking in the front of the left black object to the back of the 2nd object in alignment."
