One in five Muslim prisoners in England and Wales is white, a striking disparity that has prompted MPs to demand an investigation into allegations that vulnerable inmates are being pressured to convert to Islam behind bars.
Ministry of Justice figures obtained by Shadow Justice Secretary Nick Timothy show white inmates account for around 20% of the Muslim prison population. That is nearly four times the 5.8% share of white people among Muslims in the wider population, according to figures reported by The Telegraph.
