1,631 new Covid inpatients, 25 more deaths

The country registered 1,631 new inpatients admitted to hospitals and 25 more Covid-19 related fatalities, the Ministry of Public Health reported on Sunday.

This compared with 1,942 patients and 23 deaths reported on Saturday.

All infections reported on Sunday were local cases.

The 24-hour period saw 2,143 patients discharged from hospitals after recovering.

As of Saturday, 16,186 people were receiving Covid-19 treatment, including 8,544 in hospitals. The remainder were 142 in hospitel facilities, 7469 in home or community isolation and 31 in other places, according to the daily update posted by the Department of Disease Control.

Of those in hospital, 709 were seriously ill patients with lung inflammation, with 351 dependent on ventilators.

According to the Centre for Covid-19 Situation Administration (CCSA), the 25 people who died were aged from 36 to 96 with the average age of 76. All were Thais.

Bangkok logged eight new deaths and there was one in the adjacent province of Pathum Thani.

Other central plains provinces further from the capital had seven deaths — two in Kanchanaburi and one each in Phetchaburi, Chon Buri, Lop Buri, Uthai Thani and Samut Songkhram.

The North reported five deaths — three in Chiang Mai and one each in Phrae and Lamphun.

The Northeast saw two new fatalities in Khon Kaen and Ubon Ratchathani.

The South had two deaths in Surat Thani and Krabi.

Vaccinations continued to progress, with 142.84 million doses administered as of Saturday. The CCSA said 82.3% of the population has now received at least one dose of the vaccine, 77.3% at least two shots and 45.8% at least one booster shot.

On Saturday alone, 39,591 vaccine doses were administered — 5,278 as a first shot, 10,018 as a second shot and 24,295 as a booster shot.

Since the pandemic started in early 2020, there have been 4,658,542 Covid-19 cases, including 2,435,107 cases this year, with 4,609,956 complete recoveries to date.

The accumulated death toll stood at 32,400 since the beginning of the pandemic, including 10,702 so far this year.

The highest number of Covid-related fatalities in a 24-hour period was 312 recorded on Aug 13, 2021. The highest number of cases was 28,379 on April 1, 2022.

Global Covid-19 cases rose by 439.240 in 24 hours to 609.89 million. The worldwide death toll went up by 1,151 to 6.50 million.
