BENGALURU: Around 1,500 small private schools have closed in Karnataka in the Covid years, claims Recognised Unaided Private Schools Association (RUPSA). The association says that enrolment dipped after schools remained shut during the pandemic.
“While the number of private schools was around 20,536 in 2020-21, it has dropped to around 19,000 in 2021-22. This is the data we have derived from the Student Achievement Tracking System maintained by the government,” said Lokesh T, president of RUPSA. However, an official in the DPI says the scene looks promising this year with fresh requests to start schools coming in.
