1,321 new Covid inpatients, 14 more deaths

There were 14 more Covid-19 fatalities and 1,321 new patients admitted to hospitals on Tuesday, the Ministry of Public Health reported on Wednesday.

This compared with 10 coronavirus-related fatalities and 619 patients on Monday, as reported on Tuesday.

As of midnight Tuesday, a total of 10,321 people were receiving Covid-19 treatment (up from 10,265 the previous day), including 6,113 in hospitals (down from 6,201). Of the remainder, 81 were in field hospitals/hospitel facilities (up from 74) and 4,124 in home/community isolation (up from 3,987).

Of those in hospitals, 655 were seriously ill with lung inflammation (down from 660) and 344 dependent on ventilators (up from 338).

As of Wednesday the daily averages over a 14-day period were - 1,376 new patients, down from 1,766 as of Sept 1 figures; 655 seriously ill patients, down from 765; 344 dependent on ventilators, down from 355; and 20 coronavirus-related deaths, down from 27.

The 24-hour period also saw 1,251 patients discharged from hospitals after recovering.

The 1,321 new patients were local cases.

The 14 people who died were aged from 31 to 87 years.

Bangkok logged two more deaths. There were none in adjacent provinces.

Other central plains provinces further from the capital reported eight more deaths - two in Chachoengsao and one each in Rayong, Chanthaburi, Nakhon Nayok, Sing Buri, Saraburi and Kanchanaburi.

The North reported four new coronavirus-related deaths - in Chiang Mai, Sukhothai, Phrae and Tak.

The Northeast and the South were fatality free on Tuesday.

Since the pandemic started in early 2020, there have been 4,670,184 Covid-19 cases, including 2,446,749 this year, with 4,627,285 complete recoveries to date.

The accumulated death toll stood at 32,578 since the beginning of the pandemic, including 10,880 so far this year.

Global Covid-19 cases rose by 449,966 in 24 hours to 614.71 million. The worldwide death toll went up by 1,310 to 6.52 million.

The United States had the most cases at 97.20 million, up 31,492, and the most deaths at 1.08 million, up 287.
