Rs 1.3 lakh crore given to poor through DBT, says Andhra Pradesh finance minister Buggana Rajendranath

AMARAVATI: Finance minister Buggana Rajendranath said the state government has transferred over Rs 1.3 lakh crore to the eligible poor through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) in the last 34 months.

He dared the opposition TDP members to point out lapses or leakages in the release of amounts to the beneficiaries if they are really interested in doing good to the people. He alleged that Naidu deceived people by not implementing the promise during his regime and is unable to digest the YS Jagan Mohan Reddy government's commitment to fulfil the promises.

Responding to a question asked by YSRC legislators Kasu Mahesh Reddy, Hafeez Khan,Karanam Dharmasri and others, finance minister informed the assembly on Tuesday that the state government has disbursed nearly 1.3 lakh crore through DBT since June, 2019. He said backward classes communities got around 47.93 per cent while SCs got 16.30 per cent of the total fund released through different schemes under Nava Rathnalu.

He said Kapus got a share of 8.76 per cent and Muslim minorities got around 3.91 per cent. The minister explained that other communities including the poor from the upper-classes communities got a share of 17 per cent of the total amount disbursed through DBT.

Buggana told the assembly that the state government has been making continuous and determined efforts with the Centre to secure Special Category Status (SCS). He said chief minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy had raised the issue at Niti Ayog meeting chaired by the Prime Minister and emphasised the impediments caused to AP due to the non-granting of SCS. He said the state government has made forceful argument before the XV finance commission and requested the commission to recommend the grant of SCS to AP to the Centre. He said they have also passed a resolution in the assembly and raised the issue with several Union ministers.
