CHANDIGARH: The city has one doctor for every 492 patients and one bed for 299 people, according to the health department data that shows an impressive ratio if compared to the WHO recommendation of 1,000 patients per doctor for India.
The statistics for the UT include referral patients/beds from the adjoining states. However, if referral hospitals, where patients from the adjoining states are excluded, there are around 1,000 beds for UT patients, that is equivalent to one bed for 1,200 city residents.
