A Wisconsin man is facing serious felony charges following a road rage incident that escalated into a violent stabbing. According to People, Chad L. Norton, 28, is now dealing with the legal fallout after an encounter on April 23 left another driver with multiple puncture wounds and lacerations.
The incident began when the victim and his girlfriend were leaving North Beach. According to police reports, Norton allegedly cut the couple off in traffic and shouted, “Don’t you know how to use your f—ing turn signal!” It is the kind of aggressive encounter that feels all too common on the roads today, but this one took a much darker turn.
The two drivers eventually ended up near 12th Street and Washington Avenue. At this point, the victim pulled up next to Norton, leading to an exchange where Norton allegedly told the other driver, “I’m going to beat your ass.” The victim told police he responded by telling Norton to “hop out.” Both men exited their vehicles and engaged in a physical altercation that lasted only about seven seconds.
Those seven seconds were enough to change everything
During that brief window, the victim threw several punches but later told authorities he did not realize he had been stabbed until he returned to his car. It is a terrifying detail because it shows how adrenaline can mask serious injury in the heat of the moment. The victim eventually drove himself to Ascension All Saints Hospital, where medical staff observed wounds to his chest and arm that required stitches.
Investigators were able to review video footage of the altercation, which appeared to show Norton making stabbing motions during the fight. When Norton was taken into custody, he reportedly told officers he did not remember pulling a knife. However, he also mentioned that he typically carries a folding knife and claimed he was only trying to stab the victim’s hand to “get him away from me.”

Norton is currently facing felony charges of aggravated battery with intent to cause great bodily harm and first-degree recklessly endangering safety. Norton entered a not guilty plea during his arraignment and waived his preliminary hearing. The court found probable cause, and the case has been bound over for further proceedings, with a status conference scheduled for June 2.
A cash bond was set at $5,000, and the court has imposed strict conditions, including a no-contact order with the victim and a prohibition on Norton possessing or controlling any weapons. While the investigation continues, the victim should probably be glad that this act of road rage did not come with a gun. Nor was it a driver who just chose to drive over his vehicle.
