Drag Race: Philippines star Misua has died aged 27.
Jason Elvie Ty, best known by the stage name Misua, died “in her sleep” on Thursday (2 April) in the Philippines. A cause of death has not been announced.
A much-loved presence in the Filipino drag community, Misua had been cast on the forthcoming season of Drag Race: Philippines, which had been due to start filming.
Misua’s death was announced by World of Wonder, the production company behind the series, in a statement that read: “We are heartbroken to share that Misua, a talented Queen set to appear on season four of Drag Race Philippines, passed away in her sleep the morning of April 2.
“She brought light, artistry, and joy to those around her, and she will be deeply missed.”
Production on the fourth season has been paused in order to “care for and support our cast and crew during this incredibly difficult time”.
“Our thoughts are with her family, friends, and all who loved her. We are in contact with her family who have asked for privacy during this hard time,” the statement concluded.
Misua’s family posted a tribute on Facebook, reading: “Jayson was our dearly loved son, brother, friend, mentor, and most of all, Jayson is a star. He will be greatly missed by his loving family and close friends.”
Misua’s death was met with an outpouring of love from the Drag Race community, including Hannah Conda, the season two runner-up of RuPaul’s Drag Race, who wrote: “Absolutely heartbreaking! My thoughts are with my Filo family. I love you all and sending my love! She was an absolute star!”
Blu Hydrangea, one of the original Drag Race UK stars, added: “Devastating! Sending all my love to everyone involved.” Meanwhile, Cheryl, a UK contestant in 2019, said: “My thoughts are with everyone, especially Misua & her loved ones.”
According to a biography obtained by Variety, Misua described herself as “a talented and deeply creative queen from Cagayan de Oro, whose drag was rooted in fashion, artistry, and self-expression. A graphic designer by profession and a performer for eight years, she is known for creating nearly every aspect of her drag herself – from her outfits, hair, and nails to props and visual content – reflecting her extraordinary creativity and eye for detail”.
Her drag name, which was inspired by Misua’s grandfather’s comfort food, a type of noodle, “speaks to the personal and heartfelt nature of her artistry”.
Misua’s application for the programme continued: “Known for her striking visuals, fashion-forward perspective, and magnetic presence, Misua brings light, joy, and ambition to everyone around her.
“She sees herself as both a creative force and a star, with a dream of inspiring others to work hard for what they want and to hold on to their dreams.”
Season three of Drag Race: Philippines aired last year, with Maxie crowned the winner and Khianna in second place.
The fourth season was announced in October 2025, and was due to air later this year.
